Messy Play and Marvellous Frog Learning in Wrens! 🎨🐸

This week, the Wrens children have been delighting in learning all about the life cycle of a frog, combining creativity, hands‑on exploration and thoughtful discussion.
The children demonstrated excellent understanding as they sequenced the stages of a frog’s life, proudly wearing their frog hats decorated with each part of the life cycle. They talked confidently about how frogs grow and change, using new vocabulary and explaining their ideas clearly to one another.
To deepen their learning, the children also explored ‘frog spawn’ messy play. This sensory activity sparked lots of curiosity as the children squeezed, poured and examined the textures, sharing their thoughts and predictions about what frog spawn might feel like in ponds and streams. Messy play encouraged language development, cooperation and problem‑solving, as well as plenty of excitement and laughter!

💬 Questions to Continue Learning at Home

You might like to ask your child:
  • Can you tell me the different stages in a frog’s life cycle?
  • Which stage comes first? Which comes last?
  • What did the frog spawn feel like? How would you describe it?
  • Why do you think frogs need water to grow?
  • How is a frog’s life cycle the same or different to ours?
These conversations help children to reflect on their learning, develop confidence in explaining their ideas and make links between school and the world around them.
At St Peter’s, we believe children learn best through play, exploration and talk. Experiences like these help our children to Love learning, Learn deeply and Shine as curious, confident individuals — living out our school vision of Love, Learn, Shine every day. 💛✨
