Effective use of the all additional funding grants such as the pupil and COVID premiums is central to helping us achieve our vision and deliver our mission. More information on how we set about this can be found below.

The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011. Each year schools are allocated funding for children from low-income families based on those pupils who are eligible for free school meals, looked after children and those from families with parents in the Armed Forces.

At St Peter’s Primary School

– We ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all the children
– We ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups, this includes ensuring that the needs of socially disadvantaged pupils are adequately assessed and addressed
– In making provision for socially disadvantaged pupils, we recognise that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be socially disadvantaged.
– We also recognise that no all pupils who are socially disadvantaged are registered or qualify for free school meals. We reserve the right to allocate the Pupil premium funding to support any pupil groups of pupils the school has legitimately identified as being socially disadvantaged
– Pupil premium funding will be allocated following a needs analysis which will identify priority classes, groups or individuals. Limited funding and resources means that not all children receiving free school meals will be in receipt of pupil premium interventions at one time.

Provision

The ranges of provision the schools may use include:
– Providing small group work with a teacher or teaching assistant focussed on overcoming gaps in learning
– 1:1 support
– Additional staff to meet the needs of all learners
– Acquiring effective materials and resources aimed at raising standard, particularly in reading and mathematics
– Subsidising educational experiences such as visits and residentials
– Provide support for families with extra curricular and enhancement provision
– Provide equipment to ensure pupils develop appropriate levels of ICT skills ready for the next phase in their learning

If your child does not have Free School Meals, but may be eligible because of your family’s income level, please contact the office (in confidence) to register them. Even if you do not wish them to have the meals, this would mean the school could still claim Pupil Premium funding that may be used to help your child.

We are aware that some families may not be eligible for free school meals but from time to time may experience financial difficulty. We are happy to support all families as best we can whatever their situation. In this instance we advise you come and speak (in confidence) to Mr Griffiths, Miss Fishburn, Mrs Jones or any of the admin team.
