πŸ•°οΈπŸŒŸ Love, Learn, Shine: Sparrows Become Historians for the Day

The Sparrows were so lucky to share their shine with Eagles Class and Mrs Henderson at the end of last week as they celebrated the end of their History unit, From Hospital to School: The Story of Our Building. The children proudly showcased the amazing work they have completed over the past few weeks, sharing their learning about the history of St Peter’s and how it has changed over time from Harrogate Infirmary into the school we know today.
To welcome their visitors, the children performed their special history song, which they have loved learning and singing throughout the unit. The song helped them remember key facts and dates, including when the infirmary opened in 1883 and why a larger hospital was needed as Harrogate’s population grew. Visitors then explored the children’s museum displays, where the Sparrows confidently explained the evidence they had gathered from photographs, postcards, timelines and their own investigations around the school.
The children impressed everyone with their enthusiasm and knowledge, demonstrating how historians use different sources of evidence to discover and understand the past. Their confidence, curiosity and excitement were clear to see as they shared fascinating facts and answered questions about the building’s remarkable journey through time.

Mrs Patefield said, “I have been incredibly proud of the children’s enthusiasm, curiosity and determination throughout this unit. They have embraced every opportunity to investigate the past, and it was wonderful to see them sharing their knowledge so confidently with others. Watching the children bring the history of our school building to life showed just how much they have learned and how passionately they have engaged with their learning.”

This special celebration perfectly reflected our school vision of Love, Learn, Shine. The children showed a love of their school’s heritage, learned through careful historical enquiry and truly shone as they shared their discoveries with pride. What a wonderful way to celebrate the end of a fantastic unit of learning! 🌟
