Wrens Explore What Makes Places Special

This half term, our Wrens Early Years class have been enjoying their RE learning as they explored the big question: β€œWhat places are special and why?”
The children have been learning that for many Christians, a church is a very special place. In class, they carefully explored and talked about different features found inside a church, developing their understanding through stories, discussion and creative activities. One particular highlight was designing and creating their own beautiful stained glass windows, which showed fantastic imagination and attention to detail.
To bring this learning to life, EYFS children visited our local church, where they were excited to recognise and name many of the features they had learned about. Using their new key vocabulary confidently, the children identified pews, stained glass windows, the font, the altar and the organ.
The visit was a wonderful example of learning beyond the classroom. All children behaved respectfully and thoughtfully, showing curiosity and care as they explored the church space. It was a joy to see them making real‑life connections and talking enthusiastically about what they could see and remember.
This experience beautifully reflects our school vision of Love, Learn and Shine:
  • Love – showing respect for the church and the wider community
  • Learn – applying new RE knowledge and vocabulary in a real setting
  • Shine – demonstrating confidence, curiosity and pride in their learning
Well done, Wrens, for shining so brightly and representing St Peter’s so wonderfully in our community! 🌟
