Shining a Light on Roman History! 🔦📜
Starlings Class have been busy combining creativity, history and science in a truly electrifying Design and Technology project!
Over the past couple of weeks, the children have designed and created fantastic electric posters to showcase their impressive knowledge of the Romans, building on everything they have learned in their history lessons this term. From Roman soldiers and roads to daily life and incredible engineering achievements, the children have brought their learning to life in a unique and exciting way.
Using their prior science learning about electrical circuits, the children carefully planned and constructed working circuits to illuminate key parts of their posters. It has been wonderful to see them applying their knowledge so confidently, making links across subjects and developing their problem-solving skills as they worked through challenges.

The classroom has been buzzing with excitement as each child proudly shared their finished work, explaining how their circuits function and the historical knowledge behind their designs. The sense of achievement has truly reflected our school vision to Love, Learn, Shine — with children loving their learning, engaging deeply with new knowledge, and shining through their creativity.

🌟 Continue the Learning at Home
You can build on this fantastic learning journey by exploring some simple activities together at home:
- Create a mini circuit using a battery, wires and a bulb to reinforce their understanding
- Design a poster about another historical period and think about how you could make it interactive
- Visit a museum or explore online resources about the Romans to deepen historical knowledge
- Talk about electricity in everyday life, such as how lights and appliances work in your home
- Encourage problem-solving by asking your child how they overcame challenges during the project
