Swinging into the Sixties! St Peter’s Takes on the Great Knaresborough Bed Race
We’re delighted to share that St Peter’s CE Primary School has teamed up with Techbuyer to take part in this year’s Great Knaresborough Bed Race, taking place on Saturday 13 June. Our team has already completed a practice run of the course (and survived!), and excitement is building as we prepare for this fantastic community event.
👕 Non‑Uniform & 1960s Dress‑Up Day – Friday 15 May
To support our Bed Race fundraising, we’ll be holding a non‑uniform day on Friday 15 May.
- Children are welcome to come to school in non‑uniform
- If they wish, they can dress up in 1960s style — think bright colours, flower power, music icons or sporty looks!
- There will be prizes for the best‑dressed children
Donations can be made via Arbor, and all funds raised will go straight back into school to support the work we do, including:
- School trips and visits
- Learning resources
- Enrichment opportunities for all children
Your generosity really does help every child to love learning and shine.
📚 Special Curriculum Theme Day
As part of the day, children will enjoy a special curriculum theme day, learning about a significant event from the 1960s. They’ll also take part in creative activities, including producing artwork that will be used to decorate our Bed Race bed — a wonderful opportunity for children to see their learning and creativity showcased beyond the classroom.
🧍♂️ Volunteer Marshals Needed
We are also looking for two volunteer marshals to support us on race day by standing along the course and cheering on the team.

🎨 Children’s Artwork – “Swinging Sixties” Theme
We’re inviting children to create bright, bold artwork inspired by the 1960s to help decorate our bed. There’s lots of exciting inspiration, including:
- 🚀 The Moon landing
- ⚽ England winning the Football World Cup
- 🌼 Flower power and peace symbols
- 🎵 Music – The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Woodstock
- 🧸 Toys – space hoppers, chopper bikes, Barbie & Ken
- 🎬 Films – early James Bond, Marilyn Monroe
- 📺 TV – Doctor Who, Star Trek
Every contribution will help our bed stand out on the day and celebrate children’s creativity.
