πŸ’ Little Corners, Big Thoughts: Reflection Areas in Action

At St Peter’s, we want every child to have opportunities throughout the day to pause, reflect and think deeply about themselves, others and the world around them. As part of our commitment to developing spirituality across the school, each classroom includes dedicated reflection and prayer spaces that children can access whenever they feel the need.

These welcoming areas complement the daily opportunities for reflection that take place during our inclusive collective worship. They provide children with a quiet place to think, pray, wonder, share their thoughts, express gratitude or simply take a moment of calm during a busy school day. Importantly, these spaces are an invitation for all children, regardless of faith or background, to engage in reflection in a way that is meaningful to them.
Alongside the prayer and reflection areas, children also take part in a range of spirituality-focused activities designed to develop their thinking and language. One example is our spirituality vocabulary matching game, where children match key words and concepts with their meanings. Activities such as these help children deepen their understanding while building the rich vocabulary needed to express their thoughts, feelings and ideas about life’s bigger questions.

We have seen some wonderful examples of these spaces being used thoughtfully across the school. Children in Owls Class and Eagles Class have embraced these opportunities, contributing prayers, reflections and thoughtful responses that demonstrate curiosity, empathy and a growing understanding of spirituality.
These special spaces are helping children to develop confidence in expressing themselves, exploring their beliefs and values, and reflecting on their experiences. They are another way in which we live out our vision of Love, Learn, Shine, encouraging every child to flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
We are incredibly proud of the thoughtful conversations, kind reflections and moments of wonder that these areas are inspiring across our school community. πŸ’™βœ¨
