🌊 Spiralling into Creativity in Kingfishers

🎨 Shell-ebrating Art in Year 1!

The children in Kingfishers have been exploring spirals as part of their art learning this half term. Drawing on the careful observation skills they developed while studying shells, the children created their final pieces using vibrant oil pastels on black paper. The striking contrast allowed their colourful spiral designs to really shine, producing artwork full of detail, creativity and individuality.

Throughout the project, the children learned how artists use shape, pattern and colour to create different effects. They thoughtfully applied these skills to their own designs, taking inspiration from the fascinating textures and forms found in nature.
At the end of the lesson, the children enjoyed a gallery walk, taking time to appreciate one another’s work and reflect on the feelings and emotions the artwork inspired.

One child shared:

“I like this picture best because the colour and shapes make me feel calm and close to nature.”

Mrs Pywell said:

“The children have worked incredibly hard to develop their observational drawing skills and have shown great creativity in their final pieces. It was wonderful to hear them talking thoughtfully about each other’s artwork and the feelings it inspired.”

This learning beautifully reflects our school vision of Love, Learn, Shine. The children showed a love of the natural world, learned new artistic techniques and shone through their creativity, confidence and thoughtful reflections. 🌟
