🛠️✨ Creative Engineers in Year 3

The children in Year 3 Owls, taught by Miss Wilson, have been busy developing their engineering skills through an exciting Design and Technology project.
As part of their learning, the children designed and created their own pneumatic systems, discovering how compressed air can be used to produce movement. They showed fantastic creativity as they turned their ideas into working models, while also demonstrating excellent teamwork and problem-solving skills throughout the process.

Miss Wilson said, “I was so impressed with the children’s creativity and perseverance. They worked brilliantly together, tackling challenges with enthusiasm and showing great pride in their finished designs.”

The project encouraged the children to think like engineers, testing their ideas and evaluating how effectively their pneumatic systems worked. The learning doesn’t stop there, as the children will soon be reflecting on their designs and considering how they could make improvements to make them even more effective.
This learning beautifully reflects our school vision of Love, Learn, Shine. The children showed Love through their collaborative teamwork, Learned new skills and scientific concepts through practical investigation, and Shone through their innovative ideas and determination to succeed.

Follow-up Ideas for Home

Why not continue the learning at home by:
  • Looking for examples of pneumatics in everyday life, such as bus doors, dentists’ chairs or construction machinery.
  • Challenging your child to design an invention that could be powered by air.
  • Creating simple moving models using recycled materials and discussing how movement can be achieved.
  • Talking about the importance of testing and improving designs, just like real engineers do.
Well done, Year 3 Owls. We can’t wait to see how your designs develop in the next stage of the project! 🌟
