When our Year 6 children returned from their residential visit to Bewerley Park last week, they came back with far more than muddy boots and tired smiles. They returned with increased confidence, stronger friendships, new skills and unforgettable memories that will stay with them long after their primary school journey ends. Over the course of the week, families followed their adventures through our daily newsletters, and we wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate the incredible experience as a whole and share why residential visits remain such an important part of life at St Peter’s.
From the moment the children arrived, they embraced every opportunity on offer. Whether exploring caves, tackling high ropes, navigating digital orienteering challenges, scrambling across the spectacular landscape of Brimham Rocks, canoeing at Glasshouses or taking part in river adventures and team-building challenges, the children approached each activity with enthusiasm, determination and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones.
One of the greatest strengths of a residential experience is the opportunity it provides for children to discover what they are capable of achieving. Throughout the week, children overcame fears, solved problems, developed independence and supported one another through challenges. It was wonderful to see friendships flourish and confidence grow with each new experience.
The visit also brought our school vision to life in countless ways. Children demonstrated Love through their kindness, encouragement and support for one another. They embraced opportunities to Learn, developing new skills and gaining valuable experiences beyond the classroom. Most importantly, they truly Shone, showing resilience, courage and determination in every activity they undertook.
Beyond the outdoor adventures, many of the most memorable moments came from simply spending time together. Sharing meals, helping to tidy dormitories, enjoying evening walks, taking part in initiative challenges, relaxing with friends and performing in the hugely successful St Peter’s Got Talent competition all helped create the special sense of community that makes residential visits so valuable.
For our younger children and families, Bewerley Park provides a glimpse of one of the many exciting opportunities that await in Year 6. Residential visits play a vital role in helping children prepare for the transition to secondary school by developing resilience, responsibility, independence and teamwork in ways that cannot always be replicated in the classroom. Year after year, children tell us that these experiences become some of their happiest and most treasured primary school memories.
We are incredibly proud of every child who took part. The positive attitude, excellent behaviour and enthusiasm shown throughout the week reflected brilliantly on our school community and on the values we hold dear at St Peter’s. A huge thank you must also go to our dedicated staff team, whose care, commitment and willingness to spend time away from their own families helped make such a special experience possible.
As we look back on a fantastic week, we celebrate not only the adventures the children enjoyed, but also the personal growth that took place along the way. Bewerley Park 2026 will be remembered for the challenges conquered, the friendships strengthened, the laughter shared and the many moments in which our children truly lived out our vision to Love, Learn, Shine.
We know our current Year 5 children will already be looking forward to creating their own Bewerley Park memories next year. 🏔️✨
