This week in Wren Class, the children enjoyed a wonderful creative activity using flower petals to create their own beautiful flowers. The activity provided lots of opportunities for exploration, imagination and discussion as the children carefully selected and arranged their petals.
As they worked, the children demonstrated fantastic oracy skills by describing what they could see and feel. Some children explored the texture of the petals, using rich vocabulary such as “smooth” and “soft” to explain their observations. Others focused on the colours they could see and began discussing how colours can be mixed together.
One child thoughtfully explained, “I have a red petal, but to get a pink petal, I would need to add white. Red and white make pink.” It was wonderful to hear the children making connections with their previous learning and confidently sharing their ideas with others.
Through this hands-on experience, the children developed their communication skills, extended their vocabulary and explored early scientific and artistic concepts in a meaningful way.
This activity beautifully reflects our school vision of Love, Learn, Shine. The children showed a love of learning through curiosity and exploration, learned new vocabulary and colour-mixing concepts, and shone as they confidently shared their thinking and creativity with their friends.
