Today, Wren Class loved their PE session outside! The children learned why it is important to warm up their bodies before exercising and enjoyed a range of movements that helped develop their coordination and spatial awareness. They carefully practised moving safely around others, finding space and following simple instructions while having lots of fun together.
After being active, the children learned how to cool their bodies back down through gentle stretches and calming movements. This helped them understand how exercise affects our bodies and why it is important to look after ourselves before and after physical activity.
Miss Ward said, “The children demonstrated fantastic oracy skills throughout the session, confidently using and responding to key vocabulary such as ‘space’, ‘stop’, ‘go’, ‘stretch’, ‘balance’ and ‘move safely’. They listened carefully, shared their ideas and talked about how their bodies felt before and after exercise.”
Some of the common language the children used and heard during the session included:
- “Can you find a space?”
- “Freeze!”
- “Stretch up high.”
- “Move safely.”
- “How does your body feel?”
- “Let’s cool down.”
- “Walk slowly.”
- “Balance and hold.”
This learning links beautifully to our school vision of Love, Learn, Shine. The children showed love by encouraging one another, learned new skills to keep their bodies healthy, and truly shone through their enthusiasm and excellent listening.
Follow-Up at Home
Why not continue the learning at home by: π Going for a family walk and talking about how your bodies feel before and after exercise.
π§ Practising simple stretches together and discussing why we warm up and cool down.
π― Playing a game of “Freeze” in the garden or at the park to develop listening and movement skills.
π¬ Using words such as stretch, balance, space and exercise in everyday conversations to build confidence with new vocabulary.
What a wonderful afternoon of active learning and fun! π
