The Herons class enjoyed a wonderful visit to Harrogate Children’s Library this week, where they learned all about different species of owls. Inspired by the beautiful owl statue that watches over the library, the children explored the fascinating world of these magnificent birds and discovered how to identify different types using a series of clues and observations.
During the visit, the children became owl detectives, carefully examining features such as size, markings and habitats to work out which species they were investigating. It was a fantastic opportunity to develop their observation and reasoning skills while learning about wildlife in an engaging and memorable way.
The children also had time to browse the library’s collection, exploring a wide range of books and discovering new stories and interests. A creative highlight of the visit was designing their own owl-themed bookmarks, which the children were delighted to take home.
The trip was a lovely experience that combined learning, creativity and a love of reading. It was wonderful to see the children so engaged and enthusiastic throughout the visit.
At St Peter’s, we encourage our children to Love, Learn, Shine. This visit gave the Herons the opportunity to learn about the natural world, develop a love of reading and shine through their curiosity, creativity and teamwork.
