In Early Years, the children have been enjoying our key text, Peace at Last. As we explored the story, we thought carefully about how we could help Daddy Bear get a good night’s sleep. After lots of discussion, the class decided that Daddy Bear’s favourite food would definitely be… pizza!
The children designed and made their own delicious pizzas, carefully choosing toppings and verbally identifying the initial sounds they could hear in each ingredient. It was wonderful to see their growing confidence with phonics as they talked about the sounds in words while creating their tasty masterpieces.

Ideas for follow-up learning at home:
- Look for foods in your kitchen and identify their initial sounds together.
