💛Filling Buckets with Kindness in Sparrows Class 🪣

Sep

This week in Sparrows Class, as children across the whole school have been doing, the children continued exploring our whole-school book, We Can Make a Difference. Our focus was on the important themes of respect and kindness, helping the children to think about how their words and actions can positively impact others.

Together, we discussed the many ways we show kindness around school, from helping friends and including others in games to using kind words and showing respect to everyone in our community. The children shared thoughtful ideas about how these actions make people feel happy, valued and cared for.
We also enjoyed listening to the story Have You Filled a Bucket Today? This powerful book helped the children understand how kind words and actions can “fill someone’s bucket”, while unkind words and actions can empty it. The children reflected beautifully on the difference they can make through simple acts of kindness every day.
To put their learning into action, the children created special certificates for their partners. Each child carefully thought about what makes their partner unique and special, choosing kind words to celebrate their strengths and qualities. It was wonderful to see so many smiles as the certificates were shared and received!
Mrs Patefield said, “I was incredibly proud of the thoughtful and caring comments the children wrote for one another. They showed great understanding of how kindness and respect help everyone feel valued and included.”
One child said, “It made me feel happy when my friend told me what was special about me. I liked making their certificate too because I wanted to make them smile.”

Try This at Home

Why not continue filling buckets at home by:
  • Writing a kind note for a family member.
  • Sharing one thing you appreciate about each person at the dinner table.
  • Looking for opportunities to help someone without being asked.
  • Talking about how acts of kindness make both the giver and receiver feel.
This learning links beautifully to our school vision of Love, Learn, Shine. By showing kindness and respect, the children are living out our values, helping themselves and others to flourish and shine every day. ✨
