🌟 A New School Year Begins: Everything You Need to Know for September 2026
We are delighted to welcome all of our families back to St Peter’s Church of England Primary School for the start of another exciting academic year. After what we hope has been a restful and enjoyable summer break, our staff team is looking forward to working alongside our children and families as we begin a new year of learning, growth and achievement together.
At St Peter’s, our vision of Love, Learn, Shine is at the heart of everything we do. As we begin the new school year, we are excited to create new opportunities for every child to flourish academically, socially and spiritually.
A Positive Start to the Year
Children return to school on Tuesday 8 September, with the school day beginning at 8:45am. Staff will be on the playground from 8:40am to welcome families and ensure children are safely collected from their class lines.
To support a smooth start and finish to each day, families can access the school site shortly before the beginning and end of the school day. Clear class collection points are in place to help everyone feel confident and organised as routines settle back in.
Exciting Learning Ahead
The first week of learning will focus on the inspiring book “Kindness Grows”, with children exploring themes of kindness, friendship and making a positive difference to others. This work links closely to our school’s updated behaviour expectations and the values that underpin our vision.
Through this learning, children will be encouraged to demonstrate how they can live out our values of Love, Learn and Shine each day through their actions and relationships.
PE, Sport and Healthy Lifestyles
We are pleased to continue the transition towards our new PE tops following the positive feedback received from children, families and staff. These lighter-weight tops have proved popular and will gradually become the standard PE outer layer over the coming year.
A full list of PE days will be shared in this week’s newsletter. Children should attend school in full uniform during the first week of term, with the exception of Starlings Class, who begin their swimming lessons immediately.
Working in Partnership with Families
Strong relationships between home and school are central to helping children thrive. We encourage families to keep in touch through our school office, with email remaining the preferred method of communication. Further details about Open Classrooms, Stay and Play sessions and Parent Consultation Meetings will be shared soon.
We also ask families to check that contact details and parental consents on Arbor are up to date so that we can continue to keep children safe and supported throughout the year.
Helping Children Be Ready to Learn
To help every child enjoy a successful day at school, families are reminded to:
- Ensure all uniform is clearly named.
- Bring a reusable plastic water bottle each day.
- Leave toys and keychain items at home to minimise distractions.
- Choose healthy snacks and remember that we are a nut-aware school.
These small steps help create calm, purposeful classrooms where children can fully focus on learning and enjoying their school experience.
Looking Ahead
Weekly newsletters will begin on Friday 11 September, keeping families informed about school life, celebrations and upcoming events.
There is so much to look forward to this year, and we cannot wait to see our children grow in confidence, develop new skills, build friendships and embrace new opportunities.
