🌍 A Moment to Pause: Year 6 Prayer Spaces and Transition Journey

During their final weeks at St Peter’s, our Year 6 children were gifted a very special opportunity to pause, reflect and prepare for the exciting journey ahead through a dedicated Prayer Spaces experience.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful volunteers from St Peter’s and St Paul’s Churches, who thoughtfully set up and led this meaningful experience. Their care and commitment created a calm, welcoming environment that offered our children a true gift during such a busy and emotional time of year.
The Prayer Spaces provided a lively and engaging range of activities, encouraging children to reflect on their time at St Peter’s, celebrate their achievements, and think about the future. In the midst of the many transition events and end-of-term celebrations, this space offered something different a chance to slow down, be still, and take time to think.
Each area within the space invited children to explore their thoughts and feelings in different ways. From reflecting on happy memories and friendships, to considering hopes and anxieties about secondary school, the activities supported children in making sense of this important transition. There were opportunities to look back with gratitude, connect with others, and look forward with courage and anticipation.
Importantly, the experience also helped children to recognise that they are not alone in this moment of change. Across our country and around the world, many children are preparing for the same step into secondary school. These connections help our children to feel part of something bigger, grounded in shared experience.
This time of reflection is deeply linked to our Christian vision of Love, Learn, Shine. Through love, our children felt cared for and supported; through learning, they grew in understanding of themselves and others; and through shining, they were encouraged to move forward with confidence, hope and inner strength.
The concept of Prayer Spaces in Schools draws on spirituality and inclusivity, offering children of all backgrounds time and space to reflect on life’s big questions in a way that is open, creative and personal. You can find out more about this approach on the St Peter’s School Harrogate website, where we continue to celebrate opportunities for spiritual development across our school community.
We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 children as they complete their journey at St Peter’s. We wish them every success as they move on to secondary school after the summer break, carrying with them the memories, values and spirit of our school.
They truly continue to Love, Learn and Shine.
