🌟✍️ Creativity Takes Flight in Sparrows Class
To conclude their English unit on Grandpa’s Secret Giant, the Sparrows children have amazed us with their very own versions of the story. Throughout the unit, the children carefully drafted, edited and redrafted their work, showing fantastic perseverance and pride in every step of the writing process.
The finished results were truly wonderful. Each child created an eye-catching front cover to accompany their story, giving their writing a real “published author” feel. The sense of achievement across the class was clear, and the children were incredibly proud to share their work.
We had a lovely celebration of writing when the Sparrows welcomed the Wrens to listen to their stories. The children read aloud with growing confidence, while the Wrens showed great respect and kindness as they listened so attentively. It was a joyful moment of sharing, reflecting the nurturing community we value so highly at St Peter’s.
Class teacher Rachel Corrigan said:
“I am so proud of the creativity and determination the children have shown throughout this unit. They have really embraced the writing process, and it has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they shared their stories. Each child has truly shone.”
This experience beautifully reflects our school vision to Love, Learn, Shine—the children loved the creative journey, learned new writing skills and techniques, and truly shone as confident young authors.

You can continue to support your child’s love of storytelling at home by:
- 📚 Sharing stories together – read a favourite book and talk about characters, settings and what might happen next
- ✍️ Creating a mini storybook – encourage your child to write and illustrate their own short story
- 🎠Retelling stories aloud – act out a familiar tale or their own story with expression and confidence
- 🎨 Designing book covers – create new covers for favourite books or their own stories
- 💠Story starters – give your child a fun opening line (e.g. “One day, I discovered a secret…”) and see where their imagination takes them
