🧁 Cooking Up Confidence: Year 6 Children Impress in the Kitchen

While many of our Year 6 children were out visiting their new secondary schools, a small group remained at St Peter’s and were treated to a fantastic Food Technology morning with Mrs Jaeger β€” and what a brilliant experience it was!
The children took full ownership of their learning from the very beginning. They carefully chose their own recipes, prepared all the ingredients and equipment, and worked through each step with independence and enthusiasm. It was wonderful to see them demonstrating such maturity and confidence as they followed their recipes.
Working collaboratively in teams, the children developed a range of important life skills, including:
  • Chopping and preparing ingredients safely
  • Measuring and weighing accurately
  • Organising their workspace
  • Supporting one another and sharing responsibilities
They also had the opportunity tospeak with our kitchen staff, asking for helpful tips and advice β€” a lovely example of the children showing initiative and respect for others’ expertise.

🍴 Delicious results!

The final results were truly impressive! The children produced a range of colourful, tasty dishes, including:
  • 🌈 A beautifully bright and fresh bean salad
  • 🧁 Perfectly well-risen cheese muffins
  • 🍯 Delicious flapjacks, served with juicy strawberries
Not only did everything look fantastic, but it tasted just as good too!

πŸ’¬ What did the children think?

One child shared:
β€œI loved making the muffins because we got to do everything ourselves. It felt like being a real chef!”

πŸ‘©β€πŸ³ A word from Mrs Jaeger

Mrs Jaeger said:
β€œThe children showed fantastic teamwork and independence this morning. They listened carefully, supported each other and produced some really high-quality dishes β€” I was very proud of them all.”

🌟 Living our vision: Love, Learn, Shine

This special morning was a wonderful example of our school vision in action:
  • Love – working kindly together and supporting one another
  • Learn – developing practical skills and confidence in a real-life context
  • Shine – showing independence, creativity and pride in their achievements
A huge well done to all the children involved β€” you truly did shine in the kitchen!
