🌈🎼 Love, Learn, Shine Through Reading: Summer Challenge Inspires Our Children

We were delighted to welcome Alison from Harrogate Town Library to St Peter’s this week, where she delivered engaging and inspiring talks to both our KS1 and KS2 children. Her visit officially launched this year’s much-anticipated Summer Reading Challenge and was met with great excitement across the school!
Alison introduced the Summer Reading Challenge 2026, themed “Read to the Beat”, which celebrates the wonderful connection between reading, music and creativity. Through her lively presentations, the children discovered how they can take part in the challenge by choosing books that spark their interest, setting their own reading goals, and enjoying a summer filled with stories and imagination.
Throughout the holidays, children will have the opportunity to visit their local library, explore a wide range of books, and collect special badges and rewards as they progress. Those who complete the challenge will also receive a certificate—something to be incredibly proud of when we return in September.
At St Peter’s, we believe that reading is at the heart of learning and personal growth. Opportunities like the Summer Reading Challenge support our vision of Love, Learn, Shine:
  • Love – fostering a lifelong enjoyment of reading and stories
  • Learn – developing vital literacy skills and broadening knowledge
  • Shine – building confidence and celebrating each child’s achievements
We strongly encourage all our children to take part over the summer holidays. Not only does it help maintain and strengthen reading skills, but it also opens the door to new ideas, adventures and creativity.
We can’t wait to hear all about the books our children have discovered when they return—what an exciting way to keep the joy of reading alive all summer long! 📖✨
