🔋 Lighting Up Learning: A Bright Blend of Science and Creativity

At St Peter’s CE Primary School, our children in Herons have been bringing learning to life in the most imaginative way by combining art, design and science into one exciting project!
This wonderful piece, created by one of our children, shows a beautifully designed display featuring a hand-drawn character on black paper, enhanced with colourful chalk lines and creative details. Below, a boxed structure houses a simple electrical circuit, complete with wires, crocodile clips and a small bulb. When connected, the circuit powers the light—adding a glowing element to the artwork and demonstrating scientific understanding in action.
Through this hands-on activity, children have been able to:
  • Develop an understanding of simple circuits and how electricity flows
  • Apply their knowledge in a practical and meaningful way
  • Express themselves artistically using bold colours and imaginative designs
  • Build resilience by testing, adjusting and improving their work
This project is a fantastic example of how we encourage children to Love learning through engaging, creative experiences. By combining subjects, children are able to see connections, deepen their understanding and take pride in their achievements. We are incredibly proud of the way our children embrace opportunities like this, showing curiosity, creativity and confidence as they Learn and Shine. At St Peter’s, learning truly comes alive when children are given the freedom to explore, create and discover—and this project certainly lit up our classrooms in more ways than one! ✨
