👮♂️ Working Together to Keep Our Children Safe
This week, children in Owls, Starlings and Herons took part in an important road safety talk with PSCO Northcott. The session helped the children learn more about the dangers around roads and how to keep themselves and others safe when travelling on foot or by bike.
Through clear, age‑appropriate discussion and practical examples, the children explored:
- Safe places to cross the road
- Why speed limits are in place
- How traffic can behave differently in busy areas
- The importance of stopping, looking, listening and thinking every time they are near a road

The children were thoughtful, engaged and keen to share their own experiences, showing a growing understanding of how to make sensible, safe choices in everyday life.
Miss Wilson was delighted with how well the children responded:
“The children listened so carefully and asked really sensible questions. It was lovely to see them growing in confidence and understanding how their choices can help keep themselves and others safe.”
🚶♀️ Supporting Road Safety Learning at Home
Families play a vital role in helping children build safe habits. You can support this learning by:
- Talking through your walking route to school and identifying safe places to cross
- Encouraging your child to say ‘Stop, Look, Listen and Think’ out loud before crossing
- Pointing out hazards such as parked cars, driveways and junctions
- Modelling safe behaviour by always using crossings and waiting patiently
- Discussing why speed limits matter and how they help protect everyone
Revisiting these messages regularly helps children feel confident and prepared when out and about in the community.
