💛 Love and Respect in Action: Exploring the Qur’an in Year 2
This half term, Year 2 Sparrows have been learning about the Qur’an as part of their Religious and World Views Education. The children explored how and why the Qur’an is special to Muslims, how it is used and cared for, and what this teaches us about respect more widely.
The children learned that the Qur’an is treated with great care because it is believed to be the word of God. They discovered that it is often kept in a special place, handled carefully, and read with respect. These ideas sparked thoughtful discussions about why some objects are special, and how we show respect for them.
As part of the unit, the children made carefully considered written reflections, thinking about:
- Why special books and objects matter to people
- How we show respect through our actions
- The importance and value of words

The children made wonderful connections between caring for the Qur’an and how we treat special books, family items, and meaningful objects in their own lives. Their reflections showed empathy, curiosity and a growing understanding of different beliefs and world views.
This learning strongly reflects our school vision to Love, Learn and Shine:
- 💖 Love – by showing respect for others’ beliefs and special objects
- 📚 Learn – by deepening understanding of different faiths and values
- ✨ Shine – by sharing thoughtful ideas and expressing them with care
We are incredibly proud of how sensitively and maturely the children approached this learning. It was a joy to see them engaging so thoughtfully with big ideas about respect, belief and the power of words.
