We were delighted to host our fifth Walk to School Day of the year today, working alongside Zero Carbon Harrogate.Β The morning was made even more special by a very welcome guest, Teddy the Bear from our friends and neighbours at Verity Frearson. Teddy thoroughly enjoyed accompanying the children safely on their journey to school, alongside Mr Griffiths and Mrs Oldfield, and brought lots of smiles and excitement along the way.
A huge thank you to everyone who walked, cycled or scooted to school, whether with family members or as part of a walking bus. It was wonderful to see so many families choosing active travel as part of the start to their day.
Why active travel matters
Walking, cycling and scooting to school brings many important benefits for our children. Physically, it helps children stay active, healthy and ready to learn. Emotionally, it supports positive wellbeing, confidence and a calm and happy start to the school day. Choosing active travel also helps care for our environment by reducing traffic and pollution, and it creates valuable opportunities for children and families to connect, talk and build relationships within our community.
At St Peterβs, active travel reflects our vision to Love Learn and Shine. We love our community and Godβs world, learn healthy habits for life, and shine as responsible and respectful citizens.
Supporting active travel at St Peterβs
We are pleased to remind parents and carers that we have cycle and scooter storage available on site to support and encourage active travel wherever possible. We hope this helps families feel confident choosing active ways to travel to and from school.
Join us for our final walking bus
We would love as many families as possible to join us for our final walking bus of the year on Friday 19 June. It is a lovely opportunity to come together, enjoy the journey to school and continue celebrating active travel as part of everyday life.
Thank you once again to our children, families, staff and community partners for supporting these joyful mornings. Together, we continue to walk, learn and shine.
