❤️ Love in Action – How Encouragement Builds Strong Friendships

This week in worship, children at St Peter’s CE Primary School explored what it truly means to be a good friend by encouraging one another and building each other up.
Our worship focused on the Bible verse:
“Encourage one another and build each other up.”
1 Thessalonians 5:11
This powerful message reminds us that our words and actions can either help friendships grow strong — or knock them down just as quickly.

🧒 Danny’s Story – The Power of Encouraging Words

During worship, the children watched a story about a boy called Danny. As Danny went about his day playing football, drawing, balancing, helping others and reading his friends passed by and spoke to him.
Each kind, encouraging comment helped to build a tower of blocks, showing how positive words can stack up and make someone feel confident, valued and strong. Danny’s smile grew with every encouraging word.
But then something different happened.
One unkind comment was spoken and in an instant, the whole tower was knocked down.
This helped the children see just how powerful words can be. It takes time and care to build someone up, but only a moment to knock them down.
The children reflected thoughtfully on how Danny might have been feeling and discussed whether we tend to remember encouraging words or hurtful ones more easily.

✨ A Message from Mr Griffiths

Mr Griffiths shared a simple but important message with the children:
“Every day, we are all carrying invisible building blocks. The words we choose decide whether we help someone build something strong or whether we knock it down. Let’s choose to be builders.”
This message beautifully links to our school vision of Love, Learn, Shine — loving others through kindness, learning how our actions affect others, and helping every child shine through encouragement.

🏡 Ideas to Follow Up at Home

Families can continue this learning together at home in simple, meaningful ways:
  • 🧱 Build an encouragement tower using bricks, blocks or even folded paper — add one piece for every kind word spoken during the day
  • 💬 Encouragement challenge: each family member says one positive thing about another at the dinner table
  • ❤️ Talk together about how it feels to hear kind words — and how we can be brave enough to speak them out loud
You might like to read and talk about the Bible verse together:
“Encourage one another and build each other up.”
1 Thessalonians 5:11
Ask your child:
  • What words help you feel built up?
  • How can we encourage someone who is having a hard day?

🌈 Love, Learn, Shine

Through this worship, children were reminded that friendship is not just about being together  it is about how we treat one another. Every kind word, every moment of encouragement, helps our community grow stronger.
At St Peter’s, we continue to help children love generously, learn wisely and shine brightly one encouraging word at a time.
