🤝 Friendship: Our Focus for the Term Ahead
As we look ahead to the coming term, our whole school community at St Peter’s CE Primary School will be focusing on the Christian value of Friendship.
Friendship sits at the heart of our school vision Love • Learn • Shine. It reflects who we are as a Church school and how we want every child to feel: known, valued and never alone.
Through daily relationships, high‑quality teaching and carefully planned acts of collective worship, children will be invited to explore what it means to be a good friend, to belong, and to live well together. Our approach is inclusive, invitational and inspirational, allowing every child — whatever their background or belief — to engage meaningfully and authentically.
đź“– Friendship Through Worship
Our collective worship this term will be rooted in Bible stories, prayer and reflection drawn from Roots and Fruits, helping children to understand friendship both as a human gift and as part of God’s loving relationship with us.
Key Bible verses we will return to include:
“Encourage one another and build each other up.”
1 Thessalonians 5:11
Children will explore how:
- Words and actions can build others up or knock them down
- Good friendships take time, patience and forgiveness
- Jesus models perfect friendship, walking alongside people in love and compassion
- God is always present, even when friendships feel difficult or fragile
Worship will include storytelling, drama, quiet reflection, prayer and practical symbols such as friendship bracelets, chains, and towers of encouragement, enabling children of all ages to engage actively and thoughtfully.
🌍 An Inclusive and Invitational Approach
As a Church school, we are clear about our Christian foundation, while being deeply respectful of all faiths and worldviews. Children are invited, never compelled, to take part in prayer and reflection.
This term’s focus on friendship creates natural space for:
- Listening carefully to one another
- Showing empathy and compassion
- Including others, especially those who may feel left out
- Valuing difference as a strength
These are messages that resonate universally and support the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of every child.
🏠How Parents Can Help at Home
Friendship is learned and strengthened every day — and families play a vital role. You can support this term’s focus by:
-
đź’¬ Talking about friendships
Ask your child: Who helped you today? How did you help someone else?
-
🧱 Encouraging positive language
Remind children how powerful kind words can be in “building others up”.
-
đź‘‚ Modelling good listening
Put devices down and show what it means to really listen — just as we encourage children to do with their friends.
-
🤍 Practising forgiveness
Help children understand that friendships sometimes go wrong — and that saying sorry and starting again matters.
-
🙏 Sharing quiet moments
A short prayer, reflection or moment of stillness can help children feel calm, supported and connected.

✨ Living Out Love • Learn • Shine
This term, friendship will not just be something we talk about — it will be something we live.
- Love – by caring for one another and showing compassion
- Learn – by understanding ourselves and others better
- Shine – by being encouraging, inclusive and hopeful in our community
We look forward to seeing the fruits of friendship grow across our school as children learn how to stand together, support one another and shine brightly — for themselves and for others.
Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support.
