🧼 Eagles Become “Scent‑sational” Sculptors!

In the Eagles class, the children have been embracing their creative flair by exploring the work of renowned local artist Barbara Hepworth. Inspired by her elegant forms and deep connection to the Yorkshire landscape, Eagles swapped traditional stone and bronze for something a little softer (and a lot more fragrant!)—soap.
With great care, the children carved smooth curves, refined shapes, and pierced the iconic holes that define Hepworth’s modernist style. This hands‑on exploration helped the children think deeply about texture, space and form—an artistic journey of peeling back, refining and truly seeing shape in new ways.
Once their sculptures were complete, the Eagles proudly curated their very own “Hepworth Gallery” right here in the classroom. They toured one another’s creations, offering thoughtful observations and celebrating each other’s creativity. It was a wonderful moment of Love, Learn, Shine in action—collaboration, curiosity and pride all glowing brightly.

✨ A word from Mrs Williams

“The children showed such care and imagination in their carving. It was amazing to see them so inspired by our local heritage and so proud of what they created.”Mrs Williams

🗿 Who Was Barbara Hepworth?

Barbara Hepworth (1903–1975) was one of Britain’s most important modern sculptors. Born in Wakefield and later living in St Ives, she became known for her abstract forms, smooth curves and distinctive ‘pierced’ sculptures. Hepworth’s work was strongly influenced by nature—rolling hills, windswept cliffs and the textures of the landscape all shaped her artistic vision. Her sculptures can be seen in galleries and public spaces around the world, including right here in Yorkshire.
