At lunchtime today, our wonderful child‑led Climate Crew visited every classroom to deliver the spring book from our brand‑new Climate Education Reading Spine. Each class received their story in a distinctive green drawstring bag, along with a simple laminated guide explaining how the bag is used and when the next book will arrive. We hope all classes enjoy discovering this term’s special story together! 📚💚
📖 What Is the Climate Education Reading Spine?
Our new Reading Spine is a carefully curated collection of eco‑themed stories chosen to spark curiosity, inspire thoughtful conversations and help children deepen their understanding of the world around them. These stories celebrate nature, encourage stewardship and support the rich climate education woven throughout our curriculum.
This whole‑school project has been made possible thanks to a generous donation from Mr Smith, given in loving memory of his wife Anne Marie, who adored reading with the children of St Peter’s. Her legacy now lives on through stories that bring joy, wonder and meaningful learning to every class. What a beautiful tribute.
🌿 How It Works
Each term, the Climate Crew will:
- Visit every classroom
- Deliver a specially chosen climate‑themed book
- Leave it inside a green drawstring book‑bag
- Share the laminated explanation sheet with staff
- Return at the end of term to swap the book for a new one
Teachers can choose the moment that suits their class to enjoy the story together — a quiet reflective read, a launchpad for discussion, or a shared celebration of God’s wonderful world.
Through these books, every class will experience a rich, interconnected reading journey that supports our school vision to Love • Learn • Shine:
