Eagles Class Bring the Yorkshire Dales to Life
Eagles Class have been hard at work bringing geography off the page and into their hands with an exciting, creative project exploring the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Using salt dough, the children sculpted impressive 3D models that truly captured the region’s distinctive landscape.
🌍 Hands-On Geography
The children used detailed topographical maps to guide their work, ensuring that every valley, hill and feature was carefully shaped and coloured with precision. By physically moulding the land themselves, the children developed a deeper, more meaningful understanding of physical geography – learning through doing at its very best.
🏔️ Shaping the Landscape
As they worked, the children explored the powerful forces that have shaped the Yorkshire Dales over time:
- Glacial Action: The children visualised how moving ice carved out the famous U-shaped valleys and deep tarns.
- Tectonic Shifts: By shaping the land themselves, they gained insight into how ancient movements of the Earth’s plates created the region’s rolling hills.
✨ A Week of Inspired Learning
It was a fantastic (and very messy!) week of learning that the children thoroughly enjoyed. They even drew on their maths and DT skills to carefully measure and make the salt dough from scratch – a brilliant example of cross-curricular learning in action.
This project perfectly reflects our school vision of Love, Learn, Shine. The children showed a love of learning through their enthusiasm, learned new skills and knowledge through hands-on exploration, and truly shone in the creativity and care they put into their work.
