Today, the children gathered for collective worship to explore our half-term theme of Love and Belonging, with a special focus on listening carefully to one another and recognising that every voice matters. This linked beautifully with World Mental Health Day 2026 and its theme, “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change.”
The worship encouraged children to think about what it really means to listen. Through a mindful “One Minute Challenge”, everyone spent time in silence, noticing sounds around them and reflecting on how slowing down helps us notice and value other people.
Children then explored the Bible story of Blind Bartimaeus. Although many people heard Bartimaeus calling out, Jesus was the one who truly stopped and listened. Through this story, children reflected on how being heard helps people feel valued, included and loved.
The message connected powerfully to the importance of mental wellbeing. Children discussed how people can sometimes feel worried, lonely, nervous or overwhelmed, and how simple acts of kindness and careful listening can make a real difference. We reflected on the fact that when people feel heard, they feel that they belong, and when they belong, they can truly flourish and shine.
As part of our reflection time, children considered the question:
“How can you help someone feel listened to this week?”
The worship concluded with a prayer asking God to help us become a school where everyone feels loved, valued and included, and to help us live out our vision every day.
This collective worship was a wonderful reminder of our school vision:
Love means listening. Learning happens when we hear others’ experiences. People shine brightest when they know they belong.
At St Peter’s, we continue to live out our vision to Love, Learn and Shine, ensuring that every child knows their voice matters and that they are an important part of our school family.
