๐Ÿ› Coding Caterpillars and Book Adventures for Owls Class

As part of our ongoing strong partnership with Harrogate Library, our classes enjoy regular visits throughout the year, helping children develop a lifelong love of reading and learning.
This week, it was the turn of our Year 3 Owls Class to visit the library. The children were excited to use their library cards, browse the shelves, share stories with friends and write thoughtful book reviews about the books that caught their interest. These visits provide wonderful opportunities for children to discover new authors, explore different genres and develop their confidence as readers.
The visit also included a fantastic mini coding workshop, showing the children that computing is not always screen-based. Using the Code-a-pillar, children worked in teams to design routes, build obstacle courses with LEGOยฎ and programme their caterpillars to navigate successfully through the challenges. The activity helped develop problem-solving, sequencing and logical thinking skills while ensuring plenty of fun and teamwork along the way.
One child said:
โ€œI really enjoyed making the Code-a-pillar go around the obstacles we built. It was fun working out the right order of the pieces, and I learned that coding is all about giving clear instructions.โ€
The morning was a wonderful example of our school vision to Love, Learn, Shine. The children showed a love of reading as they explored new books, learned new computing skills through hands-on challenges and shone through their creativity, collaboration and enthusiasm.
A huge thank you to the team at Harrogate Library for continuing to provide such engaging and inspiring experiences for our children. We are already looking forward to the next visit! ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿฆ‰
