Road Safety Learning with Our Community Police Officer 🚸

This week, our Year 1 and Year 2 children in Kingfishers and Sparrows enjoyed a special visit from Martin Powell, our local Community Police Officer, who came into school to talk to the children about road safety as part of their PSHE learning.
Martin shared clear, age‑appropriate messages and top tips for staying safe near roads, which the children listened to with great interest. He was extremely impressed with how confidently the children could talk about what they already knew, especially their understanding of safe crossing places and the importance of stopping, looking and listening carefully.
This visit followed on perfectly from the children’s recent local area walk, where they explored real‑life crossing points and practised identifying safe and unsafe places to cross. It was wonderful to see the children making strong links between their classroom learning and the world around them.
Martin commented on how well the children were able to explain their thinking and was delighted to be able to deepen their understanding further, building on their knowledge with his own experience of keeping communities safe.

Miss Corrigan shared:

“The children were so engaged and confident when talking about road safety. They were excited to share what they already knew and asked thoughtful questions. This visit really helped to strengthen their understanding and showed how important it is to work together as a community to keep our children safe.”

At St Peter’s, experiences like this bring our vision of Love, Learn, Shine to life. By learning from trusted members of our community, the children are developing the knowledge, confidence and responsibility they need to shine both in school and beyond.
