πŸ™πŸ‘‚ Listening to Our Friends: A Powerful Worship on Friendship

This week, our whole school worship focused on an important and powerful life lesson: learning to really listen to our friends. Through story, reflection and prayer, the children explored what it means to be a good friend β€” not just in happy moments, but especially when someone needs care, kindness and understanding.
Our worship was rooted in the Christian value of Friendship, guided by the Bible verse:
β€œA friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need.”
β€” Proverbs 17:17
The children listened carefully to a short drama showing how easy it can be to appear distracted when a friend is trying to talk, and how important it is to give our full attention. This sparked thoughtful discussion across all ages, with children sharing ideas about how listening helps friendships grow stronger and deeper.

🀝 Children Leading, Reflecting and Responding

We were incredibly proud of the children for the way they actively engaged in the worship. They listened respectfully, contributed confidently to discussions, and reflected honestly on their own friendships. Many children shared thoughtful insights about times when listening had helped them support a friend β€” or when they realised they could do better.
During quiet reflection, the children considered how listening is an act of love. They recognised that being a good friend isn’t always about fixing problems, but often about being present, patient and kind.
This deep reflection shows how our children are growing not only academically, but spiritually and emotionally β€” living out our school vision to Love, Learn and Shine.

πŸ™ A Friendship Prayer

We ended our worship by praying together, asking God to help us be better listeners and kinder friends. This prayer encouraged the children to think about how their words, actions β€” and attention β€” can build others up.
A Prayer for Friendship
Lord,
Help us to listen when our friends are speaking.
Help us to care when they are worried or sad.
Help us to be kind with our words
and generous with our time.
May our friendships be full of love, patience and understanding.
Amen.
