📚 From Story Sacks to School Library Shelves ✨ Love, Learn, Shine Through Reading Together
Reading is at the heart of life at St Peter’s, and we are delighted to see another group of families beginning their Story Sack adventures as we share them with our new Reception children.
Our Story Sacks have been a much-loved part of school life for several years, providing families with opportunities to enjoy stories together beyond the classroom. Each sack contains carefully chosen books, story-related resources and special characters that help bring stories to life through reading, discussion, play and imagination.
For many children, Story Sacks provide the perfect starting point for developing a love of books and reading. They help children discover that stories can open doors to new ideas, experiences and learning opportunities. The excitement of borrowing a Story Sack often leads naturally to visits to our school library, where children can explore an even wider range of books and authors.
As children’s confidence and curiosity grow, they begin seeking out books connected to different areas of learning and subjects being explored in class. Many children soon develop the habit of choosing books to take home and share with their families, helping to establish reading as a valued part of everyday life. We are also proud to encourage families to make regular visits to Harrogate Library, extending children’s reading journeys beyond school and into the wider community.
A special thank you goes to Mrs Bolton, whose dedication helps keep our Story Sacks looking their very best. Every summer, Mrs Bolton takes the sacks home, carefully checking their contents, replacing any missing resources and ensuring everything is ready for another year of enjoyment. Her commitment means that each new group of children can experience the Story Sacks just as they were intended – complete, engaging and full of opportunities to spark a love of reading.
This wonderful cycle of borrowing, exploring, discussing and sharing books reflects our school vision to Love, Learn, Shine. Through stories, children develop a love of reading, learn about the world around them and shine as confident communicators, thinkers and lifelong readers.
