🐲 From Story to Sculpture: Starlings Create Mythical Masterpieces

Starlings class have been inspired by the much‑loved story The Boy Who Grew Dragons by Andy Shepherd, and their learning this week has been nothing short of magical!
Building on their class reading, the children designed and created their own mythical creatures, first bringing them to life last week using plasticine. They carefully thought about what their creatures might look like, where they would live, what they would eat, and how someone might spot them in the wild.
“My creature lives in the mountains and eats shiny rocks,” explained one child.
“Mine hides in forests and only comes out at night,” said another.
This week, the children took their creativity even further by writing 3D non‑chronological reports all about their creatures. Using all the key features of this text type, the children transformed their ideas into fabulous creature eggs, each one bursting with information. Inside each egg, readers can discover clearly organised sections describing appearance, habitat, diet, and special features.
“I liked making the egg because it feels like there’s a real creature inside,” shared one child.
“My favourite part was thinking of facts to trick people into believing it’s real,” said another.
The children showed fantastic focus and imagination, combining art, design and writing to produce work they are incredibly proud of.
“I felt like a real author and designer,” commented one child.
Starlings class have truly shown how stories can inspire creativity, curiosity and confidence. We are so proud of their wonderful mythical creations! 🌟🐉
