⚓ A Treasure‑Filled Day of Learning: Pirate Day in Wrens ⚓
Wrens Class had a fantastic Pirate Day, bringing their learning sequence all about pirates to an exciting and memorable conclusion. The children arrived dressed in an amazing range of pirate costumes, ready to sail the high seas and show everything they had learned.
The day was filled with enthusiasm, imagination and laughter, with children fully immersed in their pirate adventures both indoors and outdoors. It was wonderful to see such confidence, curiosity and excitement as the children applied their learning through play, talk and exploration.
Miss Ward shared:
“Pirate Day was such a joy. The children were completely engaged and so proud to share their learning. They showed wonderful imagination, teamwork and resilience throughout the day — it was a perfect way to celebrate how far they have come.”
We would like to say a huge thank you to parents and carers for your support with the incredible costumes. The effort and creativity really added to the magic of the day and helped make it such a special experience for the children.

- Asking questions and making links between stories and real life
Expressive Arts and Design

- Role play, music and storytelling to express ideas creatively
🌟 Characteristics of Effective Learning
Throughout the day, children demonstrated all three Characteristics of Effective Learning:
- Playing and Exploring – investigating resources, pretending and taking risks
- Active Learning – staying focused, showing pride in achievements and persisting with challenges
- Creating and Thinking Critically – making decisions, adapting ideas and solving problems together
These were evident in both indoor provision role play areas, creative activities, writing and maths challenge and outdoor provision physical play, team challenges and imaginative exploration.

🗨️ Follow‑Up Questions for Parents to Ask at Home
To continue the learning at home, you might ask:
- What was your favourite part of Pirate Day and why?
- Can you tell me about the treasure hunt/map you made?
- What new pirate words did you learn?
- How did you work together with your friends?
- If you were going on another pirate adventure, what would you need to take?
Thank you again for your continued support — it was truly a great day full of excitement, learning and smiles for everyone in Wrens Class!
