🕰️📸 Time Travellers on the Trail of the Past
The Sparrows continued their exciting history learning journey this week by becoming Building Detectives and investigating our school for clues from its fascinating past.
Armed with clipboards, sharp eyes and curious minds, the children began their enquiry outside, carefully studying the school building and comparing it with an old photograph of Harrogate Infirmary. They looked closely for similarities between the two buildings, searching for evidence that could help answer an important historical question.
Their investigation then took them around the school, where they discovered a range of features that revealed clues about the building’s former life. The children spotted large windows, wide corridors and even the area where the hospital lift once stood.
Using these observations as evidence, they worked together to answer our enquiry question:
“Can we find evidence that this building was once a hospital?”
The children demonstrated excellent historical thinking throughout the investigation, using the clues they discovered to make connections between the past and present. They discussed how the building has changed over time and explained their ideas using the evidence they had gathered.
This hands-on learning experience brought history to life and encouraged the children to think like real historians, asking questions, making observations and drawing conclusions from the evidence around them.
Through this learning, the Sparrows truly lived out our vision to Love, Learn, Shine. They showed a love of discovery, learned through careful investigation and let their curiosity shine as they uncovered the remarkable story of our school’s past. ✨🏫❤️
