There was a wonderful atmosphere at St Peter’s CE Primary School as we celebrated our first Walk to School Day of the 2026-27 academic year. We know how fortunate we are that so many of our families can enjoy a walk across the beautiful Stray on their journey to school. Situated in the heart of Harrogate, our central location makes St Peter’s accessible to families from all across the town, and it was lovely to see so many children arriving with smiles on their faces after an active start to the day.
One of the highlights of the morning was our half-termly Walking Bus. Walking together provides a fantastic opportunity for children, families and staff to chat, connect and enjoy being part of our school community before the school day even begins. Even a short walk to school can have significant benefits for both physical health and emotional wellbeing. Walking helps children arrive feeling refreshed, focused and ready to learn, while also providing valuable time outdoors with friends and family.
This year’s first Walk to School Day was made even more special by the glorious autumn sunshine. The beautiful surroundings of the Stray provided the perfect backdrop and linked wonderfully with our Climate Education work throughout the year. We encourage children to think about how their everyday choices can make a positive difference, and walking to school is a simple way to reduce traffic, improve air quality and care for the environment.
Events such as Walk to School Day bring our school vision of Love, Learn, Shine to life. We love spending time together as a community, we learn about the positive impact our actions can have on both our wellbeing and the environment, and we shine as responsible citizens who care for one another and the world around us.
Thank you to all the families who joined us and helped make the morning such a success. We are already looking forward to our next Walking Bus adventure! 🍂👣☀️
