🌿 From Garden to Plate: Climate Crew Grow Change

May
The Climate Crew at St Peter’s have recently brought our school vision to life by harvesting fresh parsley grown right here in our school garden.
Grown with care, teamwork and a strong awareness of our impact on the climate, the children carefully picked the parsley and proudly delivered it to our school cooks. The freshly harvested herbs will now be used to add flavour and goodness to our school dinners, helping to reduce food miles and encouraging everyone to think more carefully about where our food comes from.

Michelle Williams, Climate Lead at St Peter’s, shared her pride in the children’s work, saying
“It has been wonderful to see the children so engaged and thoughtful about sustainability. Growing and harvesting our own food helps them understand how small actions can make a big difference for our planet and our community.”

The Climate Crew have also been busy learning about water conservation. Over recent weeks, the children have been surveying the school site to identify a safe and practical location for a water butt to harvest rainwater. Through this work, they have learned that rainwater is better for plants as it is more natural and does not need to be treated like tap water. Using rainwater also helps us save valuable tap water, making it a more environmentally friendly choice.
After careful consideration, the children have successfully identified a suitable location and are now excitedly awaiting the delivery and installation of the water butt so it can be put to good use in the garden.

One child from the Climate Crew said
“I like that we are helping the plants and the planet at the same time. It makes me feel proud that we are doing something good for our school.”

This work is a wonderful example of our children living out our school vision. They are showing Love by caring for creation and the environment around them, Learn by developing their understanding of sustainable living, and Shine by taking positive action that benefits our whole school community.
We are incredibly proud of our Climate Crew and look forward to seeing how their ideas continue to grow and inspire others at St Peter’s.
