🌱 Kingfishers Grow and Glow with Green Fingers!

Jul
Our Year 1 Kingfishers children have been busy getting wonderfully green-fingered! As part of our science learning, the children have been exploring the different parts of a plant and discovering what plants need to grow and stay healthy.
A couple of weeks ago, the children carefully planted their very own grass heads. They showed great patience and care as they watered them and placed them in the best spots to grow. Now, the exciting moment has arrived – their grass heads have grown so well that they are in need of a haircut! βœ‚οΈ
The classroom has been filled with excitement as the children observe the changes each day, talking about roots, stems and leaves, and noticing just how quickly their plants have grown with a little love and attention.

Mrs Henderson shared, β€œIt has been wonderful to see the children so engaged in their learning. They have taken real responsibility for their plants and have shown great curiosity when observing how they grow.”

One of the children said, β€œMy grass head is so tall! I can’t wait to give it a haircut and watch it grow again!”

This hands-on experience has helped bring our school vision of Love, Learn, Shine to life. The children have shown love in how they care for their plants, enthusiasm in their learning, and pride as they watch their efforts shine through in their growing creations.

🌿 Follow-Up Ideas at Home

You might like to continue the learning at home with these simple ideas:
  • 🌱 Grow your own: Plant seeds such as cress, beans or flowers and watch them grow together.
  • πŸ’§ Plant care helpers: Let your child take responsibility for watering plants regularly.
  • πŸ” Observation time: Encourage your child to draw or talk about how plants change over time.
  • πŸ“š Story time: Share books about plants and nature to deepen their understanding.
  • 🌞 Talk about needs: Discuss what plants need (sunlight, water, soil) and compare them to what we need to grow.

We are so proud of how our Kingfishers children have immersed themselves in their learning. We can’t wait to see what they grow next! 🌼
