As part of our commitment to helping every child flourish both in and beyond the classroom, we would like to share some important online safety information with our families this September.
This month’s newsletter highlights new national guidance regarding the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) and how images shared online can be manipulated. Organisations including the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) and the National Crime Agency (NCA) have issued advice for parents and carers about keeping children’s images safe online. Families are encouraged to think carefully before sharing photos, review privacy settings regularly and talk openly with children about consent and online safety.
The newsletter also signposts useful resources for children and families, including the Childline Under 12s website, which provides age-appropriate advice, games and support designed specifically for primary-aged children.
Another key focus this month is YouTube. The newsletter explains the different options available for younger users, including YouTube Kids and supervised accounts, while reminding parents of potential risks such as inappropriate content, excessive screen time, unwanted contact and the influence of recommendation algorithms. Practical guidance is provided to help families make informed choices and supervise children’s online experiences.
