🩹 Learning to Keep Ourselves and Others Safe 🩹

On Tuesday afternoon, the children in Starlings and Herons took part in a practical and engaging First Aid workshop, led by the fantastic team from St John Ambulance.
During the session, the children learned how to use DR ABC to assess an emergency situation and practised how to safely place someone into the recovery position. Through hands‑on activities and clear guidance, the children developed confidence, focus and an understanding of how their actions can help keep people safe.
This learning links directly to our PSHE curriculum, where children are taught the importance of keeping themselves and others safe, understanding risk, and knowing how to respond calmly and responsibly in real‑life situations. These are vital life skills that empower children to look after one another and act with care and compassion.
“The children were incredibly focused and mature during the workshop. It was wonderful to see them taking their learning so seriously and growing in confidence as they practised these important skills,” said Mrs Martin.
The workshop also strongly reflects our school vision of Love, Learn and Shine:
  • Love – showing care and concern for others in an emergency
  • Learn – developing practical, real‑world knowledge
  • Shine – building confidence and responsibility as they practise life‑saving skills

💬 How families can follow this up at home

Parents and carers may like to:
  • Talk together about what to do in an emergency
  • Ask children to explain DR ABC and the recovery position
  • Discuss who trusted adults are and how to ask for help
A huge thank you to the St John Ambulance team for delivering such an engaging and valuable experience. We are proud of how our children approached this learning and the maturity they showed throughout.
