⭐ Helping Children Shine in the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check

May

💻 What Parents Need to Know About the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check

During the first two weeks of June, children in Year 4 will take part in the statutory Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). This is a short, fully digital check designed to help schools understand how fluently children can recall their multiplication facts – a key foundation for future learning in maths.
The check is low‑pressure and supportive. There is no pass mark, and the results are not used to judge individual children. Instead, the information helps teachers identify strengths and any areas where extra support may be helpful, ensuring teaching continues to meet the needs of every child.

📘 Supporting Families at Home

To help families feel informed and confident, we have shared Third Space Learning’s Parent Guide, which clearly explains:
  • what the check involves
  • how children are supported in school
  • practical ways families can help at home
This guide reassures parents that the focus is on confidence, familiarity and encouragement, not performance under pressure.

💛 Our Approach at St Peter’s

At St Peter’s, we approach the Multiplication Tables Check with care, kindness and encouragement. We recognise that every child is unique and valued, and we work hard to ensure children feel calm, confident and supported when completing the check.
This reflects our school vision to Love, Learn and Shine:
  • Love – creating a nurturing environment where children feel safe and supported
  • Learn – developing strong foundations in maths through regular, positive practice
  • Shine – helping every child approach challenges with confidence and pride

🎸 Practising at Home

To build fluency and confidence, we strongly encourage regular practice on Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS). Children can access TTRS both at school and at home, and even short, frequent sessions can make a big difference.

Thank you for continuing to support your child’s learning journey as they grow in confidence and shine in all they do.
