This week at St Peter’s, our whole school community came together for a special collective worship centred on one of our core values: respect. Rooted in our vision to Love, Learn, Shine, the children explored what it truly means to treat others with dignity, kindness and care.
Using our worship theme of “Respect – Valuing Different Opinions”, the children reflected on how respect shapes our classrooms, playgrounds, homes and wider world.
💬 What does respect look like?
Together, the children shared thoughtful ideas about what it means to show respect. We discussed how respect is not just something we say, but something we do every day:
- Listening carefully to others
- Using kind and polite words like “please” and “thank you”
- Taking turns and showing patience
- Caring for people, places and things
The children also explored our “RESPECT” acronym, reminding us all how small daily actions can make a big difference:
- R – Readiness to listen
- E – Everyone being valued
- S – Showing appreciation
- P – Polite words
- E – Expressing opinions sensitively
- C – Caring for others and our environment
- T – Treating others as we would like to be treated
It was wonderful to see the children making links to their own lives, thinking about how respect looks in school, at home and even in what they see online.
📖 Learning through stories
To deepen our understanding, the children listened to the Bible story of Elijah and the widow. This powerful story helped us reflect on how every person has value, even those who might be overlooked by others.
Through discussion, the children recognised that:
- Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect
- Kindness and trust can change lives
- God sees each person as unique and important
The story sparked meaningful conversations, with children considering how characters might have felt at different moments and what they could learn from their choices.
🪞 Time to reflect
During a quiet moment of reflection, the children were encouraged to think deeply about their own actions:
- How do I show respect to others?
- How do my words and actions make people feel?
- What could I do differently?
The children responded with maturity and honesty, showing a growing understanding of how their everyday choices can help build a kind and respectful community.
🙏 A shared prayer
We ended our worship with a thoughtful prayer, asking for guidance to:
- Appreciate differences
- Show love to others
- Recognise the value in every individual
This peaceful moment brought our school together in a shared commitment to living out our values.
We are incredibly proud of how our children engaged with this important theme. Their thoughtful contributions and respectful attitudes continue to make St Peter’s a place where everyone feels valued and able to flourish.
