💛 Love, Learn, Shine: Supporting Our Year 6 Children During SATs Week 💛
As our Year 6 children prepare to take their SATs this week, we want to pause and celebrate them for who they are not just for what a test can measure.
The children have worked incredibly hard in the lead-up to SATs, showing commitment, resilience and determination as they have revised and prepared. We are very proud of the effort they have put in and the positive attitudes they have shown.
However, SATs only ever tell part of a child’s story. Every single child at St Peter’s shines in their own way and that is something no test can ever define.
This message sits at the very heart of our school vision: Love, Learn, Shine.
- Love means every child knows they belong. They are valued, cared for and accepted exactly as they are.
- Learn means recognising just how much has been achieved over time. SATs offer one opportunity to show some learning – not everything a child can do.
- Shine means encouraging children to be proud of themselves, to do their best and to let their unique gifts be seen.
We also recognise that SATs can feel daunting. Feeling a little nervous is completely normal. Our message to the children is simple: take your time, do your best and remember that you are supported by a whole community who believes in you.
As families, we encourage you to take time this weekend – and beyond – to celebrate the many “smart” things you see in your children, and in yourselves too. In a world that can sometimes elevate certain skills over others, it is powerful to stop and notice the incredible diversity of talents within our community.
As Aristotle said, “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” At St Peter’s, we are proud to nurture both.
We wish all our Year 6 children a calm, confident week ahead. Whatever the outcome, they are already shining.
