Two Minutes of Silence, A Lifetime of Respect

🕊️ Remembering with Heart: St Peter’s Tribute to WWI Heroes & All those Who Serve and Have Served.

Marking 11.11.2025 children and staff of St Peter’s CE Primary School came together in groups today to mark remembrance.
At 11am, the entire school observed a two-minute silence, impeccably and respectfully held by even our youngest pupils. It was a moment of quiet reflection, honouring the sacrifices made by so many and especially poignant for our school community.
This year, our Remembrance display centred around the plaque in our school grounds, commemorating Donald Simpson Bell and Charles Hull, two extraordinary individuals who were awarded the Victoria Cross for their bravery during the First World War. Their stories, shared with the children through assemblies and classroom discussions, brought history to life in a way that was both meaningful and inspiring.
The display, created with care and thoughtfulness by staff and pupils, featured poppies, poetry, and reflections that linked beautifully to our school vision: Love, Learn, Shine. Through love and respect for those who served, learning about their courage, and shining in our own acts of remembrance, the children showed a depth of understanding and empathy that was truly remarkable.
We are proud of how our school community came together to honour the past, and we thank everyone who contributed to making this moment so special.
Some watercolour silhouette art from Starlings. Chidlren learnt how to create a wash with our watercolours and talked about the contrast of the setting sun with the black silhouettes showing some of the symbols and features of the battlefields.
Chidlren also wrote some poignant and thoughtful reflections in English.
To mark Remembrance day today, children in Owls have been learning about the importance of poppies and the significance of them in remembering those who have fallen during the wars. We loved creating our own poppy gardens to remember this significant time in History and give thanks to all who serve to protect and keep us safe.
