🚀 Clues from the Past: Kingfishers Explore Significant People in History🕵️

This week, Kingfishers began an exciting new history topic all about an important person from the past. When the children entered the classroom, they were greeted by a collection of mysterious objects – a moon rock, a toy spaceship, a badge, an old photograph and even a newspaper from long ago!
These intriguing items sparked curiosity and encouraged the children to think like historians. They explored ideas and made predictions about how these clues might be linked. Through this activity, the children learned that objects like these are called historical sources – valuable clues that help us understand people and events from the past.

Miss Ratcliffe shared:
“The children were absolutely fascinated by the clues! They worked brilliantly together to ask questions and make connections. It’s wonderful to see their excitement for history and their eagerness to learn more.”

Ideas for Follow-Up at Home

  • Ask your child:
    • What do you think the moon rock tells us about the person we are learning about?
    • Why do historians use objects like photographs and newspapers?
    • Can you think of any other clues that might tell us about someone’s life?
  • Explore together:
