🌿 Exploring Forgiveness at St Peter’s This Half Term
This half term, our Collective Worship theme is Forgiveness a deeply meaningful Christian value that sits at the heart of building strong friendships, nurturing emotional wellbeing and supporting every child to Love, Learn and Shine.
We make use of the Roots and Shoots approach from Imaginor, helping children see how Christian values are “rooted” in Bible stories and teachings but “grow” into real-life actions in their everyday school experiences.
✨ What Children Will Explore in Worship
Across the coming weeks, we’ll be reflecting on:
🌿 Big Ideas About Forgiveness
- Forgiveness as something we choose, often motivated by love.
- Understanding that saying sorry and making amends helps rebuild friendships.
- Recognising that holding onto anger can weigh us down, while forgiveness helps us move forward.
📖 Bible Stories We’re Using to Explore the Theme
These stories help children understand forgiveness through examples they can relate to:
- The Forgiving Father (Prodigal Son) – showing unconditional love.
- Joseph and his Brothers – forgiveness even when deeply hurt.
- Zacchaeus – how change and forgiveness go hand in hand.
- The Unforgiving Servant – reminding us why it matters to forgive others.
Each story supports children to see how God’s love inspires forgiveness, and how we can show that same grace to others.
🌱 Bringing It to Life in School
Children will:
- Reflect on times when they have needed to forgive or be forgiven.
- Think about the feelings around fall outs and how forgiveness helps restore happiness.
- Practise simple phrases and actions that rebuild friendships.
- Celebrate examples of forgiveness they notice in themselves and others—helping our whole school community to Love, Learn and Shine.
🏡 Ideas for Conversations at Home
Partnership with parents helps this theme flourish. Here are some gentle, family-friendly prompts you can use at home:
🌼 Talk Together
- “What does forgiveness mean to you?”
- “Can you remember a time when forgiving someone helped you feel better?”
- “Why is it sometimes hard to forgive—but still important?”
- “How do we show someone that we are truly sorry?”
🌈 Explore Feelings
- “How does your body feel when you’re angry or upset?”
- “How do you feel after someone forgives you?”
👣 Little Everyday Opportunities
- Practise saying “I’m sorry” and “I forgive you” in calm, everyday moments.
- Talk about how families forgive each other and move on.
- Share stories of characters—books, films or family moments—who made mistakes and were forgiven.
These conversations help children build emotional resilience, empathy and confidence in restoring relationships.
✨ Helping All Children Love, Learn and Shine
Forgiveness is a powerful life skill. As we explore it together this half term, we hope every child learns that mistakes are part of growing, that relationships can be repaired, and that choosing forgiveness helps us live with kindness and joy.
