🌈 “Courage to Be You!” – Celebrating Children’s Mental Health Week

🌈 Courage, Kindness and Belonging at St Peter’s CE Primary School

This week, our worship theme brought together two powerful ideas that sit right at the heart of our school vision: having the courage to be yourself and showing kindness so others feel they belong. Inspired by Children’s Mental Health Week 2026 and its theme “This Is My Place”, our children explored what it truly means to love, learn and shine—both as individuals and as a community.
Across school, children reflected on how brave it can feel to be yourself, especially when things are new, tricky, or just a little bit scary. Using our weekly worship focus on Courage, we talked about how courage doesn’t mean never feeling worried—it means trying your best, even when you do. We explored the idea that each of us shines in our own special way, and that being proud of who we are helps our whole school glow a little brighter.
Our worship assembly also helped us think about how we can help others feel welcomed and included. Children shared thoughtful ideas such as:
  • “Invite someone who’s on their own to play.”
  • “Ask how someone is feeling.”
  • “Be kind.”
  • “Put yourself in someone else’s shoes.”
Through stories like Sunny the bird and Mira the squirrel, children reflected on how small, friendly actions can make a huge difference to someone’s day—another lovely reminder of how our children shine God’s light in school.
Activities across worship helped children practise belonging in simple ways—introducing themselves, sharing their favourite things and greeting one another with confidence and kindness. These small moments help build our culture of warmth and welcome, where every child knows they have a place, and every child is encouraged to shine.
Children also learned that belonging begins with being our true selves—enjoying the things that make us unique, being kind to ourselves when we make mistakes, and knowing we can always talk to someone if we need help.
  • LOVE – by showing kindness, welcoming others and making sure everyone feels valued.
  • LEARN – by having the courage to try new things, even when they are a challenge.
  • SHINE – by being proud of who we are and helping others shine too.
This week has been a beautiful demonstration of our community living out our vision together—children supporting each other, celebrating their uniqueness and learning how to make St Peter’s a place where everyone belongs.
