✍️ Love, Learn, Shine: Starlings Explore the Arctic Through Poetry

Starlings Class have truly outdone themselves today!
The children created beautiful Arctic dioramas to showcase their fabulous haiku and tanka poems, inspired by our current book The Last Bear by Hannah Gold. Each child carefully chose the perfect spot in their diorama to display their poem, written in their very best handwriting.
As they worked, the classroom buzzed with fascinating Arctic facts and thoughtful conversations. We were so impressed by the children’s imaginative adjective choices and the effort they put into making their work shine.

Mrs Pywell shared her thoughts on the project:
“I am so proud of the children’s creativity and dedication. Their dioramas are stunning, and the poetry is full of feeling and precision. This project really shows how much effort they’ve put into their learning – it’s a wonderful celebration of their hard work.”

Follow-Up Ideas for Home

  • Create a Mini Fact Book: Encourage your child to write down five new facts about the Arctic and illustrate them.
  • Explore Poetry Together: Try writing a new haiku or tanka about winter or nature as a family.
  • Watch a Documentary: Look for child-friendly documentaries about the Arctic to spark curiosity.
